The Opportunity
We're partnering with a leading UK & Ireland EV charging infrastructure and grid connections contractor to appoint an experienced Tendering & Design Engineer specialising in high voltage networks up to 33kV. You'll lead the design of HV infrastructure for renewables projects and their associated network connections — producing detailed substation layouts, protection and control schemes, equipment selection and interface design, and making sure every design stands up technically, commercially and to the DNO. This is a senior, visible role, and route to Chartership is supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of substations — layout planning, protection and control, earthing design and auxiliary systems.
- Produce designs and tender submissions for connections and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Conduct technical site assessments and feasibility studies for HV network extensions and reinforcements.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings in AutoCAD — single line diagrams, GA layouts, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Coordinate with structural and civil designers.
- Liaise with DNOs and IDNOs and ensure designs comply with ENA, BS, IEC and relevant DNO standards.
- Prepare detailed bills of quantities and cost estimates.
- Develop construction design packs.
- Identify and eliminate risk across construction, operational and decommissioning phases.
- Provide technical input at tender evaluations, client meetings and design reviews.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Power Engineering, or HNC/HND with extensive HV design experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in 33kV or higher voltage design, including substation and HV cable design.
- Proven experience in 33kV substation layout, protection and control, earthing design and auxiliary systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD for HV design drawings.
- Strong understanding of HV plant equipment — transformers, switchgear, CTs/VTs and similar.
- Experience liaising with DNOs and IDNOs for design submissions and approvals.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience preparing and reviewing protection studies and earthing reports.
- Experience with SCADA projects, PV schedule design or energy conversion systems.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards Chartership.
- Familiarity with relevant electrical design software.
- Previous experience within an ICP utility contractor or IDNO environment.
The Package
- £450 per month car allowance.
- Hybrid and flexible working.
- 35 days annual leave inclusive of company shutdown days.
